Shannon Toohey, MD, MAEd

Shannon Toohey is the Residency Program Director for the University of California, Irvine Department of Emergency Medicine. In 2016, she completed the Multimedia Design and Educational Technology (MDEdTech) Fellowship at the University of California Irvine. She completed medical school at UC Irvine School of Medicine, after which she completed her residency at the UC Irvine Medical Center. She received a Masters in Education, Multimedia and Instructional Design at Cal Poly Pomona. During her time at UC Irvine she has developed and expanded many educational programs for the residents including a flipped medical student and intern podcast curriculum, oral board review course and helped to revamp the curriculum. Her interests include asynchronous learning, flipped curricula, resident and patient education.
Alisa Wray, MD

Alisa Wray is the Course Director for Clinical Foundations at the University of California, Irvine and the Associate Program Director for Emergency Medicine. Dr. Wray grew up in rural San Diego county and attended the University of California Irvine for her Bachelors of Science; she then attended Tulane University for her MD, and finally returned to UC Irvine to complete her Emergency Medicine Residency training where, as the Academic Chief of Educational Technologies and Simulation, she helped to develop and expand an online curriculum. She completed a Multimedia Design and Educational Technology (MDEdTech) Fellowship at the University of California Irvine and received a Masters in Education, Multimedia and Instructional Design at Cal Poly Pomona. Dr. Wray’s interests include resident and patient education, incorporation of technology into education, as well as graphic design and flipped curriculum development. Outside of medicine she enjoys spending time with her husband, baking cakes, playing with her doggy and aerial acrobatics.
Megan Boysen-Osborn, MD, MHPE

Megan Boysen-Osborn is Dean of Students and Admissions for the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. She completed a medical education fellowship at Stanford University and Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE) at University of Illinois, Chicago. Dr. Osborn’s interests are in curriculum design, residency recruitment, cardiac and neuro-ophthalmologic emergencies.
Warren Wiechmann, MD, MBA

Warren Wiechmann is the Associate Dean of Instructional Technologies at the University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine, Professior of Emergency Medicine, and the project leader for the school’s iMedEd Initiative (www.imeded.uci.edu), a comprehensive digital overhaul of the curriculum which uses the iPad as its centerpiece for curricular innovation. He is interested in the mash-up of technology, medicine, and education. He is also intrigued by the integration of technology to improve clinical workflows and efficiency, instructional technology and information design to enhance physician and patient education, mobile and asynchronous learning, the development of a medical student curriculum in informatics and instructional technology, digital literacy, and mHealth/eHealth/Medicine 2.0/Health 2.0.
Michael Epter, DO

Michael Epter is the Program Director & Vice Chair of Education at Maricopa Medical Center and the President of the Council of Residency Directors in Emergency Medicine (CORD-EM). His interests include resident education, physician wellness and neurology.
Andrew King, MD

Andrew King is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and an Assistant Residency Program Director at The Ohio State University. He is dedicated to medical education innovation, and has been instrumental in the development and implementation of a flipped classroom resident didactic curriculum, resident coaching program, and novel longitudinal academic track curricula. His professional interests include innovation in medical education, curricular development and assessment, technology in medical education, professional development and mentorship.
Sara Paradise, MD

Sara Paradise currently serves as a Multimedia Design and Educational Technology (MDEdTech) Emergency Medicine fellow at the University of California, Irvine. She is completing her Masters in Academic Medicine through the University of Southern California and currently serves as a representative to the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Education Committee through her position as the vice chair of the Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association (EMRA) Education Committee. She completed medical school at the George Washington School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. and attended residency at Banner University Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona. She has developed medical school courses on medical Spanish and a resident curriculum on professionalism and communication skills. She is specifically interested in personalized and/or small group teaching, video-based patient discharge instructions, and student mentorship.
Gabriel Sudario, MD

Gabriel Sudario currently serves as a Multimedia Design and Educational Technology (MDEdTech) Emergency Medicine fellow at the University of California, Irvine. He will be completing a Masters in Education Technology and Instructional Design. He completed medical school and residency training at the University of California, San Francisco. During residency he worked closely with an international team coordinated through the Academic Life in Emergency Medicine group to develop a visual teaching aid for the PECARN and Canadian Head CT rules. He is specifically interested in visual design, social media “micro teaching”, and diversity/inclusion in the GME setting.
Jon Smart, MD

Jon Smart is a current fellow in Multimedia Design and Educational Technology (MDEdTech) at the University of California Irvine. Having completed medical school at LSU-New Orleans and then Emergency Medicine residency at UT-San Antonio he is now continually searching for paths to innovate in medical education at all levels of training. Areas of particular interest are gamification, meta-learning, novel technology applications, as well as engaging speaking methods and slide design. Essentially he has a dream of making ineffective and mind-numbingly dull educational experiences extinct.
John Bailitz, MD

John Bailitz completed medical school at Northwestern followed by residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. As an attending at Cook County, he served as Clerkship Director, Assistant Program Director, Advising and Remediation Committee Chair, before starting an interdisciplinary Clinical Ultrasound Fellowship for EM, PEM, Critical Care and Hospitalist. Along the way, John completed both the ACEP Teaching Fellowship, as well as the ACEP EMBRS Fellowship. Most recently, John served as the Collaborative Research Director and Academic Associate Program co-founder, publishing numerous articles in trauma, US and novel procedures. John currently is Chair of ACEP Online Education, President of the Society for Clinical US Fellowships, and part of the Organizing Committee for the Social Media and Critical Care Conference. He recently became the Program Director for Northwestern Emergency Medicine. John is most passionate about the application of innovative ideas and technology in healthcare and education.
