FAQ
What is JETem?
The Journal of Education and Teaching in Emergency Medicine (JETem) is an online, open access, peer-reviewed journal-repository for EM educators. We are providing scholarly opportunities for EM educators to share their educational content in a peer-reviewed setting, and a central repository for high-quality educational materials in a well-organized, searchable format.
How often is JETem Published?
JETem is published quarterly. We accept submissions throughout the year. Our publication dates are January 31, April 30, July 31, and October 31.
We accept submissions on a rolling basis, but in general due to the time it takes for reviews, author edits and copyediting require submissions to be in at least 4-6 weeks prior to the publication date, otherwise they will be considered for the next publication date. Our turnaround time to authors averages 4-6 months.
Is JETem archived or preserved?
Yes, JETem is published, preserved, and archived through eScholarship, a service of the Publishing Group of the California Digital Library through the University of California.
The JETem eISSN is 2474-1949
Who publishes JETem and how is it funded?
JETem is published by the University of California, Department of Emergency Medicine through UC eScholarship, it is predominantly funded by the Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors.
Additionally, part of the revenue to cover copyediting and other administrative costs is from the $150 acceptance fee charged for accepted manuscripts. Editors do not make any financial profit (in any form, including buy-down of hours or stipend) for their work towards JETem.
We do not accept any forms of advertising as our primary focus is to ensure the best user experience for our readers.
Is JETem an indexed journal?
The Journal of Education and Teaching in Emergency Medicine (eISSN 2474-1949) is indexed in PubMed Central, EBSCO, Google Scholar, the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA). We are also members of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Can I use your images?
Yes! All of our images are labeled for use with modification (Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International). Our goal is to provide Emergency Medicine educators with the largest available EM image bank for use with lectures, podcasts and other teaching materials. We do ask you give attribution to JETem by noting “Images courtesy of JETem.org” during your lecture or with the end references. We also offer a small JETem logo that can be added to images for attribution if you like (see below), but we do not require it.

How can JETem help with my promotions and advancement?
JETem publications are PMC indexed with PMIDs. Additionally, JETem collects statistics on the number of downloads for each publication and will provide this information to authors upon request so they can track their impact and show it to their promotions committee. If you need your statistics please email admin@jetem.org and we will provide them for you.
How do I submit to your journal?
Please see Instructions for Authors and Submit to JETem regarding the kinds of submissions we accept and further details on how to submit your scholarly work.
Why does JETem charge an acceptance fee?
JETem works hard to keep our costs down to minimize costs to our authors, however, we do charge a $150 acceptance fee to help cover costs of copy-editing, digital conversion for PMC inclusion and administration. We only charge these fees for large manuscripts (lectures, podcasts, simulations, oral boards, TBLs, small groups, workshops, curricula and innovations) and they are waived for VisualEM submissions. None of our editors receive any form of compensation (buy down, stipend, etc) for their work on JETem. This acceptance fee is only charged once your submission has been accepted and as part of our partnership with CORD, is waived if any author is a member of CORD. JETem is also willing to waive the acceptance fee after the article has been accepted for authors who come from low income or lower middle income countries on a case by case basis.
I have another question I don't see an answer to here.
